JOB PHOTOS (page 1)

This is a clear example of an exploded battery. This explosion took place when the owner of the electric pallet truck bypassed the "cut off" battery charger trip switch and left it on over the weekend. As you can imagine he is not a happy chap and was very lucky he only escaped with damaged goods in his warehouse over human injury or perhaps a fire inside his premises...

The exploded battery photo will enlarge.

This below photo (2012 April) we were called out to fix a toilet fan which wouldn't go off? I wonder why eh! there was a low voltage 50 watt spot light next to it (100mm). We discovered that the heat from the unshielded 50w bulb plus an extremely hot magnetic tranformer had nearly ignited the cabling and roof cavity. It actually melted the cables but DID NOT TRIP THE MCB?

It is always amazing to see how simple a fire can start when LV lights are not propertly installed. Remember, it was only a few years ago that the Federal government (Labour lead Mr Rudd) tried to avoid this problem with the pink batt problems.... This was actually in an aged care facility too - can you imagine the outcry if the worse would have happened...

Rewireable Fuses:-

In these 2x photos below, it clearly shows you that rewireable fuses should be banned. The reason is, generally people do NOT know the affect it has on the equipment of over-loading the amperage on a circuit. As the saying goes, a chain is as strong as it's weakest link and your fuse or MCB or RCD is suppose to be your weakest link.

In this case, the mechanic (Yes, I said mechanic) thought he was an electrician and when he blew his existing fuse he thought that to save it blowing frequently again he would simply add on extra 15amp strands which effectively increased the breakdown capacity of the stock standard 15 amp rewireable wire. He wrapped 6 x strands of 15amp strands = 90 amps!!! on a 32 amp rating 5 pin isolator. This is the result! which nearly killed one of his employees...

Ants take over the controls of this automatic security gate

We were summond to this location because they viewed the gate opening and closing at will? Ghosts, gremlins at work??? anyhow I proceeded with caution and looked at the obvious places to rectify the problem such as cleaning the motion sensors, checking the gates alignment? still no luck. Finally I pulled the cover off and it stared me in the face or should I say thousands of tiny ants stared back up at me - problem solved.

Hanging Uranium Chandeliers down at the Rocks "Old Sydney town"

Nov 2012 - Now this was something unusual for us... I was asked by an art production company to install these uranium chandeliers and of course my first question was - "uranium? is that safe?" whereby the client sent me a PDF doco from ANSTO (Australian Nuclear Science and Technology Organisation) located at Lucas Heights Sydney. I must say, even though I recieved this paperwork I wasn't totally convinced and to be honest, that is, even after completing the job I'm not 100% sure these are safe? Added to this, electrically wise, the uniqueness and perhaps the vintage of each chandelier offered up a challenge because the existing wiring in some of these chandliers shouldn't have been used. I advised the "so called" artists that after this event they should upgrade each chandelier with the correct earthing cable required. I personally think the this advice fell on deaf ears and I won't be going near them again. For a 6 hour gig hopefully these chandeliers never come out of their boxes again.

Anyhow, such is life and I thought this was worthy of the JOB PHOTOS page.

Jan 2014 - I was on a job actually trying to find another fault when the receptionist came walking around me saying "can you smell smoke or fire??" whereby I said yes ! it's coming from under your reception desk I said. This was basically melting below her feet where she has the normal appliances plugged in but also a small electric bar heater to keep her warm. Funny that seeing in Australia Jan is summer time and she was Indian :)
